Emily and Chris joined boat today travelling up early by train from Bristol via Worcester getting to Stourbridge at half past 8. Coffee and a bit of shopping and on the move by 1000. Chris drove the boat for a while before the first lock.
Then it was locks all the way with two flights 16 in the Stourbridge Flyte and 9 in the Delph flight. At lock 5 three lads were painting the lock balance beam. "Community Payback" said the writing on the back of the hi viz jackets. "My mate wants a boat like this said one guy. I thought of the boats padlocks. He seemed pretty friendly though . Met Lynne with three of her charges at Delph bottom lock.
Stourbridge Locks
The iconic Glass House cone on the Stourbridge flight
It looks like the deepest country but its actually deepest Black Country near Brockmoor
Delph Locks Brierley Hill
The view from the top looking back towards the valley of the Severn
More shots of the Delph locks.
Arrived at The Waterfront near Merry Hill shopping centre about 1530. Quite a good time considering. Some rain but not too bad. Hoping to visit Bathams pub "The Bull and Bladder" later.
